The PowerPoint file contains a native chart. Edit its data after adding it to your presentation.

Bar and column axes include zero. Tick intervals are calculated from your data.

HOW IT WORKSWhat this chart shows

  • Compare lead sources, products or regions.
  • Show monthly trends or changes in a category breakdown.
  • Bar length follows its value on a shared scale that includes zero. Line charts can instead fit the axis to the data range.
  • For a 100% stacked chart, each segment = value ÷ its row total × 100.

CHECK YOUR DATALimits and common mistakes

  • Use 2–12 categories and 1–4 data series. Empty cells are not treated as zero.
  • Negative values work in vertical bars, horizontal bars and lines, but not stacked charts.
  • Keep chronological data in time order. A line is meaningful only when the order connects the observations.

Turn a data table into a bar or line chart

Enter 2–12 category rows and up to four data series, or paste a table from your spreadsheet. Choose the chart that matches the comparison, add a title and unit, then download an editable PowerPoint chart or an image.

Download an editable chart sample (.pptx) to inspect the output before entering your own data. The sample uses fictional business data.

Which category has the highest value?Column or barSort largest first for a ranking. Horizontal bars give labels more room.
How did a value change over time?LineKeep months or quarters in chronological order.
How much is the total, and what makes it up?Stacked columnUse consistent series names and order across categories.
How do the shares differ across groups?100% stacked barEach row is normalized to 100%; raw totals are not comparable from bar length.
What is the composition of one whole?Pie or donutUse the pie chart maker.

Check the scale before sharing

Bar and column charts use a zero baseline because their lengths represent quantities. Line charts can start at zero or fit the data range. If a fitted range starts above zero, tell the reader: small changes can look much larger on a tightly cropped axis.

For a 100% stacked bar, share = series value ÷ row total × 100. A row containing 30 and 70 becomes 30% and 70%; a row containing 60 and 140 has the same proportions but twice the total. A row whose total is zero cannot show a composition.

“Largest first” sorts by the sum of a row when there is more than one series. Keep input order when categories already have a sequence. Use a period as the decimal separator, and put units in the unit field rather than inside numeric cells.

Edit the PowerPoint file

  1. Download the PowerPoint file and open it in desktop PowerPoint.
  2. Select the chart and open Chart Design → Edit Data.
  3. Update its workbook, then save the presentation.

The download includes a native chart and an embedded workbook. PowerPoint may render fonts and labels differently from the browser. Axis limits and tick intervals are fixed to the data at export time; after a large value change, adjust them in Format Axis. Sorting is also fixed at export time.

In a downloaded 100% stacked bar chart, labels inside the bars show the original values, while the axis represents percentages. If you need percentage labels exactly as shown here, use PNG or SVG instead.

FAQFrequently asked questions

Which chart types can I create?

Vertical bars, horizontal bars, stacked bars, 100% stacked bars and line charts. Use the pie chart maker to show one whole as a circle.

Can I paste data from Excel or Google Sheets?

Yes. Copy a table with category names in the first column and up to four numeric columns, then paste it into the import box. A header row can supply the series names.

Is the PowerPoint export editable?

Yes. It contains a native chart and embedded workbook. Use Edit Data in desktop PowerPoint to update values. PNG and SVG are image exports, so they do not contain an editable data table.

Can a bar chart axis start above zero?

No. Bar length represents quantity, so the scale includes zero. A line chart can use a data-fitted axis; label and interpret that scale carefully.
